The 6 Types of Single People
After interviewing thousands of single people, one thing that I have recognized is that every person is very different and their definitions of “Casual Dating” can vary.
Since casual dating can refer to individuals who would not like their partner to have expectations early in a relationship, it is important to identify what type of single person you are before searching for your perfect app or dating site.
What Type of Single Are You?
Career-focused
- Single people that generally spend a lot of time focusing on developing their professional life. They can be focused on advancing their career for multiple reasons, including but not limited to: pursuing a purpose, making a change in the world, financial gains, or improved leadership status. Their day is filled with ambitious career-oriented tasks, leaving little to no time for dating.
Traveler
- Singles who travel frequently or move around from place to place. They usually meet many new people, but they struggle with building a deeper connection because they desire a local relationship rather than maintaining a long-distance arrangement.
Bashful
- Singles who are reserved and nervous in the company of new people. This trait will not prevent them from finding someone special, but it limits the opportunities for creating new connections that could lead to a relationship.
Jaded
- Singles who cannot overcome the pain that was caused by their past relationships. They often sabotage new relationships, intentionally or unintentionally, because of fear caused by cheating, lack of intimacy or past relationship discomfort. They struggle with adjusting to the behaviors of someone new because they are wary about making a new commitment to someone. Their new lover is often blamed for unrelated events and will decide to terminate the relationship early. This type of single may remain single for extended periods of time or generate many short-term relationships.
Relinquished
- Singles that give up on the idea of having a special love and they put no efforts into finding someone who would make a good partner for them. They are done putting in the effort to find a successful relationship because they have lost their faith in love.
Co-dependent
- Singles that actually hate being single because they depend on others for happiness. They may be the type of person who truly enjoys making others happy and this can make them really great partners. However, their co-dependency can appear needy or desperate to a new lover, which is unlikely to be attractive. This type of single may generate many short-term relationships.
Limited
- Singles that experience limitations which prevent them from accessing locations physically or emotionally that would promote interaction or connection with people. They may be single for long periods of time because it is difficult to find a partner that is open to accepting and working with their limitations.
Free and Independent
- These are singles who love to do what they want, when they want, with who they want without limitation and without having to cater to another person’s needs. They are typically not interested in monogamous relationships and generally enjoy being single. It is unlikely that they will commit to a relationship at this time.
Once you’ve decided what kind of single person you are, take note. If you resonate with:
